In “The State of European Tech – 2017”, a study published by the British investment firm Atomico, Lisbon is regarded by entrepreneurs as the eighth favourite European city for creating startups

The study relies on a survey by the European Startup Initiative which sampled the opinions of 321 startup founders who were asked “Where would you start if you could begin all over again?” The quality of the ecosystem, the ease and cost of doing business along with access to talent were some of the factors that made Lisbon an attractive destination for startups.

For 2018, the portuguese capital expects to climb the ladder of desirability even further. To achieve that aim, Lisbon is developing Beato Criative Hub, a former army factory complex with 35,000 m2 distributed amongst 20 buildings. Recognized for its industrial and architectural value, this place along the Tagus riverside is being renovated to house national and international entities in the areas of technology, innovation and creative industries.

Next year, Lisbon will also be hosting its third edition of Web Summit, the largest and most successful innovation, technology and entrepreneurship event, which mobilized more than 1,500 investors, 60,000 participants and 2,200 journalists in 2017.

The city’s vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem will continue to thrive fostered by Made of Lisboa, the brand and digital platform that aims to federate entrepreneurs, startups, companies and projects that emerge and grow from Lisbon to the world with innovative ideas, products and services.
